Opinion: Congressional Lawmakers Fiduciary Obligation to America

Granted, the GOP tax cuts already are boosting local economies and more help may be on the way. However, should we not get serious about cutting spending and eliminating the national debt, too? Fact; Congress has not managed to restrain spending. Did not Congress recently forge a budget agreement that will increase both military and domestic spending and create trillion-dollar deficits for years to come? When is it unacceptable for lawmakers to look the other way on debt and deficits? Researching various debt statistics/charts, I became knowledgeable enough to recognize that we are borrowing, in the neighborhood of two million dollars every minute, every day of the year. That’s what a trillion dollars is.

How do we counter this debt as a people? First, we begin by insisting Congressional Representatives measure the effectiveness of every government program. Second, scrap those programs, projects and government grants that are not beneficial and relevant to the majority of tax payers. Third, to even the playing field, initiate and/or raise tariffs as necessary. Fourth, top-down welfare reform. Fifth, immigration reform to include elimination of Chain Migration, Diversity Immigration Visa program (lottery) and building the Wall to secure America's Southern border from entry of illegal immigrants, drugs, criminals and terrorists. Lastly, pass legislation to ensure future budgets are balanced.
